Victoria

Victoria by Daisy Goodwin is an absolute treat for history fans. Using actual letters and journal entries from Queen Victoria it feels as though we are living her life alongside her. Goodwin takes some liberties but all is forgiven when you begin to read. It reads as though it is a fictional story about a young woman who is thrown into being Queen, except for the fact that Queen Victoria was very much a real person and one of the most researched monarchs today.

This book doesn't get hung up on the nitty-gritty details of her life or the facts of the time period it is simply the beginnings of what in my opinion became an excellent Queen. My favorite quote is as follows:

“I know that I am young, but I am ready for the great responsibility that lies before me.”

If you are interested in the hard cold fact that is undisputed, this is not the book for you. If you are looking to connect to history through a fun and lighthearted story then this is 100% the book for you.

Take a step back from dates, names, and places, and take a step into what very well could have been the inner workings of a young Alexandrina who becomes Queen Victoria.

I love this just as much as I love the TV show by the same author. (Plus all the DRAMA of course)
