  Victoria by Daisy Goodwin is an absolute treat for history fans. Using actual letters and journal entries from Queen Victoria it feels as though we are living her life alongside her. Goodwin takes some liberties but all is forgiven when you begin to read. It reads as though it is a fictional story about a young woman who is thrown into being Queen, except for the fact that Queen Victoria was very much a real person and one of the most researched monarchs today.  This book doesn't get hung up on the nitty-gritty details of her life or the facts of the time period it is simply the beginnings of what in my opinion became an excellent Queen. My favorite quote is as follows: “I know that I am young, but I am ready for the great responsibility that lies before me.”   If you are interested in the hard cold fact that is undisputed, this is not the book for you. If you are looking to connect to history through a fun and lighthearted story then this is 100% the book for you....

Daughter of the Pirate King

  Spoiler-Free Review The first time I read this book I wasn't expecting a whole lot. I was busy with school and just getting ready to graduate so I needed some kind of tension relief. Enter Daughter of the Pirate King and my heart.  I am in love with this story. As a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean, I was drawn to the words "female Captain Jack Sparrow", I was nervous about what that could mean but I will never doubt again. Tricia Levenseller does a fantastic job of bringing to life relatable, wonderfully irritating characters.  Alosa, the heroine on this epic journey, and the fiery redhead who is the Pirate princess. She is everything you would expect from a pirate and so much more. I am so pleased with how her character developed and grew with each chapter. Riden. Will Turner be still my beating heart for now there are two. He is dashingly handsome, the kindest pirate to ever live, and A NEAT FREAK. It brought me so much joy to have so many contrasts played out in this...

The Betrothed

  What did I just read? Was this even the same wonderful author that gave us beautiful stories like the siren and selection? I'm about to go on a rant so sit back and relax while I tell you the same thing it seems like everyone else is saying just in a lot more words. *****************************SPOILERS AHEAD************************************ First off, the family relationships, was there anything even remotely original about their relationship? Her parents hate their daughter and treat her like crap so she turns to the tight-knit family that never let each other down. After all that grief and supposed non-stop complaining about them it took a total of 2 seconds of her talking to her mother before the mother was a changed person. If she had taken the time to talk to her parents before then could the whole hastily put together plot been avoided? The world may never know. Secondly was how this book defined "Best friend". Best friend as in someone who actually hates you ...
